Gigi’s Big Girl Room!!!!

I know I am one of the lucky parents whose kiddo never tried to climb out of their crib, and since our youngest was still napping 3 hours day + sleeping from 8:30pm – 7:00am, we were definitely in the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” mind set.  But then her 4th birthday was quickly approaching and we knew it was time to get her out of her crib and into a big girl bed.  At the same time, our almost 10 year old’s room was still decorated for a 4 year old, so we made the decision to just go for it as our birthday gifts to them.   Belle’s bedroom furniture would go to Gigi, and we’d purchase Belle something she can grow into until she goes off to college, or even take it with her.  There was just one problem… it was now September, which means I was gearing up for my busy season which equals ZERO spare time to setup two girls’ bedrooms more-or-less decorate them, paint, etc.  And did I mention I was on a pretty tight budget??  Enter Stacey,  our amazing neighbor who also just happens to be a kick butt interior designer!!!  Her family photographer had just moved out of state, and she asked if I’d be interested in trading my photography skills for her interior design prowess.  Um YESSSS Please!!!!

I already knew that I wanted to paint Gigi’s walls yellow, and redo her room in an owl theme as I had already started collecting a few things here and there over the past year.  Plus I had already purchased her new bedding since it had recently gone on sale at Target.  Stacey took that idea and totally ran with it.  She even painted Belle’s old bedside table & book case so it would look new again, and even took an old dresser that was given to me by my girlfriend and transformed it into a beautiful, gray, antiqued treasure.   The best part for me was that Stacey took measurements, made a design/ floor plan, and on move day once the paint was dry, came over and placed and decorated her entire room while I worked out in my office.  Now, a week since the room has been completed, I still walk into Gigi’s room, stand there with a silly smile on my face, and thank her for doing what I never would have finished!!!  After all, she made my vision into a much better reality, and all within budget.  Seriously, these pictures don’t do it justice!

Finally, a HUGE thank you to my Mom and Scott for painting both of the girls’ rooms!  They did a fantastic job and saved us so much money since we didn’t have to hire a painter.  Thank you both for being the most amazing, gracious, loving, hands-on Grandparents to two very lucky little girls!!!!
